If you like no-bake chocolate oatmeal cookies, be sure to try this protein packed alternative.

Chocolate Power Balls
What you need:
2 tablespoons butter*
2 tablespoons unsweetened apple sauce
1/3 cup sugar**
1/4 cup protein powder
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons cocoa***
1/4 cup natural peanut butter****
1 cup oatmeal (quick oats works best)

What you do:
In a saucepan, melt the butter and add sugar, apple sauce,
water, protein powder, and cocoa.
Bring to a boil for about 30 seconds (stirring continuously)
Remove from heat and add peanut butter and oatmeal
Drop by tablespoon on to a cookie sheet covered with wax paper
Store in the fridge. This makes about 12 power balls.

*I'm not a fan of margarine or most butter substitutes since
they almost all contain hydrogenated oils.
**If you use maple sugar instead of white sugar, you can use less
and still get the same sweetness. I am adamantly against most
artificial sweeteners. (NutraSweet/Aspartame, etc.)
***Just my opinion, but dutch processed cocoa is the best!
You can also use carob powder in place of the cocoa, if desired.
****If you can grind your own peanut butter, that's the ultimate.
Most commercial brands have hydrogenated oils, but many grocery
stores carry Smuckers All Natural Peanut Butter. If you're fortunate
enough to live near a Wild Oats or Whole Foods, both carry a store
brand of all natural peanut butter.
