Cooking Out
It’s prime time for cookouts! Don't miss out!

Here are a few tips on how
to cook out without pigging out.
If you’re trying to stay in top shape (or get in top shape), you
don’t need to avoid the summer gatherings or make a meal of lettuce leaves
while everyone else enjoys the festivities.
Follow these guidelines for healthier, low fat choices while still
enjoying a tasty meal from the grill. The Main
Course: Grilled hamburgers aren’t
your best choice, but if it’s the only option available, comfort yourself by
knowing that a lot of fat is eliminated in the grilling process.
That’s not a license to go crazy consuming hamburger.
Watch your intake, and if there are plates available, you can skip the
bun to reduce refined carbohydrates. Remember that mayonnaise
adds lots of fat so opt for ketchup, mustard, and relish as your condiments
instead. To lower your fat intake,
barbequed chicken is a better choice… without the skin, of course. If it’s a pig roast, and
you MUST have a taste, go for a lean slice, and throw away the skin. Hot dogs are usually over
80% fat, and generally don’t include much in the way of nutrition.
If you get a chance, read the ingredient label.
Once you know what you’re actually eating, those hot dogs may be a
little easier to resist. |

Don’t rule out the option of bringing your own items for the host to grill.
There are lots of tasty veggie, vegan, and soy burgers available.

Vegetables are great on the grill, too.
Try red peppers, zucchini, onions, and squash…
or grill some corn on the cob.
